  • ingredients for pie:
  • 3 Tbsps Cooking oil
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic , minced
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • ¾ kilo Australian ground sirloin
  • 1 Tbsp Soy sauce
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Ground black pepper
  • 2 Tbsps Tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsps Sugar
  • 1 box Raisins
  • ½ cup Frozen green peas , blanched and drained
  • ½ cup Whole kernel corn
  • 2 cups Mashed potatoes
  • ½ cup Tomato ketchup
  • ingredients for the mashed potato topping:
  • 1.5 kilos Potatoes , boiled until tender
  • ½ cup Butter
  • 1 cup Full cream milk
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/8 tsp Ground white pepper

steps

PROCEDURE FOR PIE:

  1. In a large frying pan, heat cooking oil. Sauté garlic and onions until tender. Add Australian ground sirloin beef. Season with soy sauce, salt and black pepper.
  2. Cook over high heat, stirring continuously until meat turns from red to light brown. Add tomato paste, sugar and raisins. Cover and simmer for another 20 minutes.
  3. Mix in green peas and corn and simmer for 5 minutes more.

PROCEDURE FOR MASHED POTATO TOPPING:

  1. Peel boiled potatoes as soon as they are slightly cooled. Grate potatoes using the blade of a fine grater.
  2. In a sauce pot, combine milk, butter, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil but turn off the heat as soon as milk boils.
  3. Combine grated potatoes and hot milk mixture. Stir until well blended.

TO ASSEMBLE:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350°F. Spread cooked Australian ground beef at the bottom of a baking dish. Top with mashed potatoes. Smoothen top. Spread tomato catsup over the potatoes. Bake for 20-30 minutes. Serve.
