Bubble tea, also known as Boba Tea, originated in Taiwan in the 1980s and is now the current it-beverage in the Philippines. The business of milk tea has been booming recently and is being embraced by people all over, and I am one of those people captivated by these magical concoctions!

What’s in it? Simple. It’s basic brewed tea mixed with milk or other ingredients that complement the drink. One of the most popular kinds is pearl milk tea.

The simplicity of milk tea made me go gaga and I need to have one whenever I can!  My favorite places to get my pearl milk teas are Happy Lemon, Chatime and Gongcha. You might think that since it’s only milk tea, they all taste the same. Well, you could be wrong because these places have their own ways of making it the best of the best!

Chatime

The first time I ever tasted pearl milk tea was at Chatime and I swear, I craved for this place for one straight month! Coming from Paranaque, I would stop by Glorietta just to get my hands on that sweet, milky tea! You could taste the tea but the milk complemented the tea very well! I always love this place because it made me realize how good milk teas could taste.

Gong Cha

The second place I tried milk tea was at Gong Cha, also at Glorietta, which just recently opened. I accidentally tried it because I was about to see a movie with my boyfriend, and I was craving for milk tea at the time, and Gong Cha happened to be near the cinema. Perfect! Their milk tea happened to be quite delightful, and I would recommend it.

Happy Lemon

The third place, I love not only for their milk tea but also for their green tea with rock salt and cheese happens to be Happy Lemon. In my opinion, their pearl milk tea beats my first love, Chatime. Their milk teas taste creamier; almost as if they didn’t use basic milk but milk and creamer to make an edgy pearl cream tea! I highly recommend this to everyone.

So if you happen to start exploring the bubble tea craze, I recommend that you try these places and who knows? You might just go gaga for the Boba tea!
