If you want to impress your date here, start by ordering something not listed on their menu, like their Soup of the Day (P328, good for four). These are a series of soups that are probably the chef’s own family recipe. The one they were serving on the day of my visit was a Pork Rib Soup with Dried Squid and Chayote. The broth’s deep and rich flavor belies its home kitchen origin, while the pork ribs were tasty and easily fell off the bones. I then followed this with their Hainanese Chicken (P450 per half order). Indeed it is a common dish, but their version stands out with meat that was tender yet firm to the bite. Though juicy and delectable on its own, you can make the meat more salty-sweet, spicy or gingery by dipping it in the accompanying sauces. If you prefer something more sophisticated, get the tasty Singaporean Cereal Prawns (P150 each). These are battered fried prawns showered with crushed, sweetened cereal. You can end the meal with their complimentary desserts, but if you prefer something more special, order the Almond Paste with Black Sesame Balls (P88), off their dessert menu.
