“I have GOT to take my boyfriend here.” Those were the very first words that came out of my mouth as I descended the sloping driveway to Lemuria, a gem of a place away from the hustle and bustle of Metro Manila. Long touted as one of the most romantic spots in the metro by serious foodies, it’s easy to see why. Lemuria’s location, tucked into a secluded part of Horseshoe Village, lives up to its etymology: a legendary lost continent whose existence is shrouded in mystery. If you’re not looking, you might easily miss it. A small sign on the corner of a small bridge in the village beckons you to come in and discover what so many foodies have been raving about, in hushed, excited tones.

The driveway gives way to a small pond of lilies, flanked by a wall of lush greenery and flowers – a welcome reprieve from the dreariness that invades your senses caused by the day-to-day grind. To the left, the stately European style home of Lemuria’s proprietors Marina Bru Schroeder and her husband Klaus Schroeder stands, further adding to the charm of the environment.

It is said that the design is in the details. Lemuria is formerly Marina’s office space converted into an intimate area that calls to mind a provincial European household. Lemuria’s dining area allows a maximum of 20 people to enjoy a cozy and fulfilling meal, while still maintaining their privacy. Part of its interior is covered by a floor-to-ceiling mirror that lends the rustic and cozy dining area an air of space. Lemuria sits atop the Schroeder’s wine cellar, with the capacity to hold over 27,000 wines.

At the helm of Lemuria’s kitchen is 28 year-old Chef Kevin Andaya, whose culinary expertise spans over five years. Having previously worked at establishments such as Discovery Suites and Terry’s Selection, his attention to the smallest details of the food – from the presentation up to the taste – is outstanding. “It’s the little things that are the most fulfilling,” says Chef Kevin when asked about what he enjoys most about being part of Lemuria. “When people tell me that enjoy the food. That, for me, is enough.”
